The Tool That Changed My Life
I need to be honest about something. This isn't just another article about interface design for me.
Voice AI has been the most essential tool in my professional life. Not convenient. Not helpful. Essential.
Last week, Google Docs added a feature that lets you listen to any document with one click. For most people, this might seem like a nice addition. For me, it's life-changing technology.
I hate typing. Discovered this in high school when I took typing as what I thought would be an easy elective. Should have been a no-brainer, right? It became my worst subject. My nemesis. Something my dyslexic brain just couldn't process properly.
The anxiety that comes from typing - from trying to spell correctly while organizing thoughts while managing interface complexity - has been more substantial than any other anxiety my dyslexia has created. This isn't true for everyone, but it's been my reality.
Every email becomes a translation challenge. Every document requires mental energy that should go toward thinking, not toward managing letters and words and formatting.
Voice AI eliminates this barrier completely. I can think directly through speech. Complex ideas flow naturally through conversation. The cognitive load disappears.
This is why voice interfaces matter so much to me. It's not about convenience. It's about cognitive liberation.

News Flash: Google Just Made Reading Easier
Speaking of voice technology that changes everything - Google just rolled out something that perfectly illustrates what I'm talking about.
Chrome now has "Listen to this page" mode on both Android and desktop. Hit play and any webpage starts reading out loud. You can pause, rewind, skip ahead like a podcast. Change the speed up or down. Pick a voice you want to listen to. Even turn on text highlighting and auto-scroll if you like to follow along.
The best part? It works on desktop and mobile. You can keep browsing while the page keeps talking. You can even lock your phone and keep listening.
Not every site works yet, but when it does, it feels magical.
For dyslexic and neurodivergent thinkers, this isn't just a "cool feature." It's another step toward accessibility that actually respects how different brains process information.
Less friction. More autonomy. Technology finally moving in the right direction.
This is exactly what I mean about voice becoming essential rather than optional.
The Interface That Never Made Sense
For thirty years, we've been typing our thoughts into computers.
This makes no sense.
Human communication evolved through speech. We think in language, dream in words, process emotions through vocal expression. Our most natural form of communication is conversation.
Yet we've built an entire digital world that requires translating thoughts into text, organizing ideas into hierarchical structures, and navigating through visual interfaces that have nothing to do with how our minds naturally operate.
For neurotypical minds, this translation layer is manageable. Inconvenient, perhaps, but learnable.

Consider what traditional computing requires from a dyslexic brain.
